My Silk Travel Kit: 6 Pieces for Better Rest on Long Journeys

My travels come with a lot of nights away from my own bed: the Nightjet sleeper train out of Vienna, long-haul flights and a string of hotel rooms. I wanted a small bag of silk travel essentials that packs flat and makes those nights a little more comfortable, so I looked through the travel and sleep pieces at DAISYSILK.
Everything below comes from DAISYSILK‘s product pages, materials page and policies. I have not worn or slept in these pieces. Each one has a reason it made my list and one honest drawback.
What “momme” means before you buy silk travel essentials
Silk is described by its momme weight. According to DAISYSILK‘s materials page, momme measures the thickness and weight of the fabric: the higher the number, the more silk is used and the thicker and more durable it is. Most of DAISYSILK‘s core pieces are 19 or 22 momme.
1. Silk Travel Suit 3 PCS Scrunchy Pillowcase And Eyemask
Why it made the list: it covers the basics in one coordinated set. The product page lists 100% 19 momme mulberry silk, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, a 51 x 76 cm pillowcase, a 20.5 x 9 cm eye mask and two scrunchies.
Honest drawback: 19 momme is lighter than the 22 momme pieces below, and the rectangular pillowcase will not fit the large square pillows common in continental Europe.

2. 22 Momme Silk Eye Mask
Why it made the list: a thicker mask for couchettes and plane cabins where the lights never quite go off. The 22 Momme Silk Eye Mask is made from 100% mulberry silk and measures 20.5 x 9 cm. DAISYSILK says it blocks out the light and helps prevent skin and hair damage; that is the brand’s claim, not a tested result.
Honest drawback: for hygiene reasons, eye masks cannot be returned or exchanged unless they are defective, so choose the colour carefully.

3. 22 Momme Silk Pillowcase with Hidden Zipper
Why it made the list: a familiar surface on unfamiliar hotel pillows. The pillowcase is 22 momme, 100% pure mulberry silk (Grade 6A) with OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification and a hidden side zipper. DAISYSILK claims silk pillowcases reduce friction and moisture loss compared with cotton; I would treat that as the brand’s own description.
Honest drawback: it comes in US sizes (Standard, Queen, King). Custom sizes are available through customer support, but custom items cannot be returned.
4. Washable Silk Pajamas for Women
Why it made the list: pyjamas that work in a sleeper compartment and a hotel room alike. The Washable Silk Pajamas for Women are washable 100% 22 momme mulberry silk charmeuse, with a long-sleeved top, full-length trousers and contrast piping, in sizes XXS to XXL.
Honest drawback: this is the most expensive piece in my kit, and silk charmeuse creases in a suitcase and can show water marks.

5. Cable Knit Cashmere Silk Scarf Wrap
Why it made the list: train and plane cabins get cold at night. The Cable Knit Cashmere Silk Scarf Wrap is a blend of 75% cashmere and 25% mulberry silk and measures 46 x 170 cm, large enough to wear as a shawl or lay over your knees. Because it is a knit blend, the page gives the fibre mix rather than a momme weight. For something lighter, the Botanic Print Large Silk Scarf is 90 x 90 cm, 100% mulberry silk crepe de chine; its page does not state a momme weight.
Honest drawback: the wrap takes more space than the silk pieces, and the silk scarf is too thin to replace a blanket.

6. Silk Hair Bonnet for Sleeping
Why it made the list: it keeps long hair contained in a narrow bunk. The Silk Hair Bonnet for Sleeping is 100% pure mulberry silk, listed as 22mm (momme) and 6A grade. DAISYSILK says it reduces friction between hair and pillow. If a bonnet feels like too much, the 22 Momme Washable Silk Scrunchie 5cm is a smaller option in washable 22 momme mulberry silk.
Honest drawback: it is one size, and not everyone feels comfortable wearing a bonnet in a shared compartment.
Caring for silk on the road
DAISYSILK‘s silk care page describes hand washing, which works in a hotel sink:
- Fill the basin with lukewarm water and a gentle, pH-neutral detergent.
- Submerge the silk and soak it for 3 to 5 minutes, no longer.
- Rinse in clean, cool water until all the detergent is gone.
- Squeeze gently without wringing, then roll it in a dry towel.
- Dry it flat or on a padded hanger, away from direct sunlight and heat, so not on the radiator.
- For creases, hang the piece in the bathroom while you shower.
Avoid bleach and fabric softener. Silk shows creases and water marks easily, so I would pack these pieces in their own pouch.
Good to know
- Price range: From $22.99 (scrunchie) to $258.99 (pyjamas), in US dollars as shown on the DAISYSILK site.
- Where to buy: DAISYSILK’s online shop.
- Shipping to Austria/EU: DAISYSILK‘s FAQ says it ships to most countries worldwide, with free shipping on orders over $55. Its shipping page lists 5 to 8 business days and $20 below $55 for “Rest of World”, but does not name Austria or say who pays import duties and taxes, so I would ask support@daisysilk.com before ordering.
- Production: Pieces are made to order, with 1 to 3 business days for production before shipping.
- Returns: Within 15 days of receiving the order, unused, unwashed and in original packaging. Eye masks, underwear, socks and customised items cannot be returned. You pay return shipping if you change your mind; the first exchange is free.
Prices and availability may change.
My takeaway
- Start with an eye mask and a pillowcase, the two pieces that change most for the least space.
- Add pyjamas and a warm wrap if you take sleeper trains or night flights often.
- Check the momme weight on each product page and compare like with like.
- Pack a small bottle of gentle detergent so you can wash silk in the sink.
Prices and availability may change, so check the product pages before you order.
