About Me

Published on Sunday, May 7th, 2006

So I guess this is where I write some blah-ti-blah crap about myself so you know a little about me, know where I’m coming from…
I am a librarian living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Why here? Why anywhere? I’ve lived only a handful of other places in my life and keep coming back here. I like Minneapolis because it’s diverse, it’s green, you get all four seasons, and it’s home. Also, it can be pretty darn hokey too! A special thanks goes out to Chuck Olsen, vlogger of mnstories.com, for highlighting that ever so practically on his site. I’ve never lived in a suburb (* ok, my friend Stacy says this is debatable. She seems to think that the place I grew up in St. Paul was enough like a suburb to be considered one. I disagree but she insists there be an asteric about this piece. so there you go!) in my life and I have no intention of doing so (at least not now - things may changes, they always do). Other places I’ve lived are Portland, OR, Duluth, MN, Munich and Birmingham, England. I have loved living and knowing all of these places, but, like I said, I always come back to Minneapolis. The flow suites me here.
I am first generation American, daughter of German immigrants. Growing up I thought it was weird and strange to have parents that didn’t speak very good english. When my parents would talk to my friends they would look at me with a blank look and I would tell them what they said. Now I treasure my diverse background and try to keep the ties strong. It also helps being a librarian knowing another language. I get to help students translate text from German to English and they think it’s very cool.
I am also a closet musician. I play the flute and piano but mainly in the privacy of my home. Music will always be a part of my life. Secretely, I would like to play in a band. Maybe someday.
Recently I spent 15 days in New Orleans doing volunteer work helping gut homes and work in schools. It was a very eye opening experience in many ways and has made me want to spend more time down south working with those affected by Hurrican Katrina and learning/hearing more New Orleans jazz:)

That’s all I want to say for now. If I think of anything else I’ll add it/modify it. Things always change.

Came accross your Türkenhof posting and video via Google. I too spent some nice evenings at the Türkenhof this past summer, and stuck up some nice freindships with the bar staff. I was in Munich for 2 months lecturing at the university there (LMU) Anyhoot, I had some video from my summer and of the singing at Türkenhof online at:

Munich is a beautiful city, expecially in the summer. I am looking forward to returning there to lecture next summer. I was born in Leeds, England but have called Cincinnati home for quite some time now :-( I am pondering a move to Munich, if I can get this German language down!!!

    Tschüß
